Description
These homemade cheeseburger sliders with special sauce are crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and drenched in a tangy, creamy sauce that is better than takeout. They come together in under 30 minutes and are perfect for weeknights or parties.
Ingredients
- 1.5 pounds (680g) 80/20 ground beef
- 1 pack (12 rolls) Hawaiian rolls
- 8 slices (8 oz / 225g) cheddar cheese (or mix of sharp cheddar and American)
- 2 tablespoons pickle relish
- ½ cup (120ml) mayonnaise
- ¼ cup (60ml) ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, brown sugar, garlic powder, black pepper, and pickle relish. Set aside.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Season with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Cook until browned and no longer pink (8-10 minutes). Drain excess grease if necessary and let cool slightly.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the pack of Hawaiian rolls horizontally in half, keeping them connected.
- Place the bottom half of the rolls in a 9×13 inch baking dish. Distribute the cooked beef evenly over the rolls. Top with cheese slices.
- Spoon about half of the special sauce over the cheese and beef. If using bacon or onions, add them now.
- Place the top half of the rolls over the sliders. Brush the melted butter generously over the top of the rolls.
- Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 10-12 minutes until cheese is melted and buns are heated through.
- Remove foil. Spoon the remaining special sauce over the top. Cover again and let sit for 2 minutes. Slice between rolls to separate and serve immediately.
Notes
For best results, use 80/20 ground beef for juiciness. Let the beef cool slightly before assembling to prevent soggy buns. You can make these ahead by assembling and refrigerating for up to 4 hours before baking. If using turkey, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil to keep it moist.
