Best Homemade Cheeseburger Sliders: Easy Better Than Takeout Recipe

  • Author: Melano
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

These homemade cheeseburger sliders with special sauce are crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and drenched in a tangy, creamy sauce that is better than takeout. They come together in under 30 minutes and are perfect for weeknights or parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds (680g) 80/20 ground beef
  • 1 pack (12 rolls) Hawaiian rolls
  • 8 slices (8 oz / 225g) cheddar cheese (or mix of sharp cheddar and American)
  • 2 tablespoons pickle relish
  • ½ cup (120ml) mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup (60ml) ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, brown sugar, garlic powder, black pepper, and pickle relish. Set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Season with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Cook until browned and no longer pink (8-10 minutes). Drain excess grease if necessary and let cool slightly.
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the pack of Hawaiian rolls horizontally in half, keeping them connected.
  4. Place the bottom half of the rolls in a 9×13 inch baking dish. Distribute the cooked beef evenly over the rolls. Top with cheese slices.
  5. Spoon about half of the special sauce over the cheese and beef. If using bacon or onions, add them now.
  6. Place the top half of the rolls over the sliders. Brush the melted butter generously over the top of the rolls.
  7. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 10-12 minutes until cheese is melted and buns are heated through.
  8. Remove foil. Spoon the remaining special sauce over the top. Cover again and let sit for 2 minutes. Slice between rolls to separate and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use 80/20 ground beef for juiciness. Let the beef cool slightly before assembling to prevent soggy buns. You can make these ahead by assembling and refrigerating for up to 4 hours before baking. If using turkey, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil to keep it moist.
