Description
A kid-approved, creamy garlic herb buttermilk salad dressing that is ready in 5 minutes, costs pennies compared to store-bought versions, and is versatile enough for salads, dips, and roasted vegetables.
Ingredients
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 3–4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Wash and dry fresh herbs, then chop them finely. Mince the garlic until almost paste-like and set aside.
- In a mason jar or small bowl, combine the buttermilk, mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and maple syrup.
- Add the minced garlic, chopped herbs, salt, and black pepper to the wet ingredients.
- If using a jar, screw the lid on tightly and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. If using a bowl, whisk until smooth and uniform.
- Taste the dressing and adjust seasoning with more salt, lemon, or pepper as needed.
- Cover and let the dressing sit in the refrigerator for at least 5 minutes to allow flavors to meld and garlic to soften before serving.
Notes
If the dressing is too thick, add a splash of buttermilk or water. If too thin, add more mayo or sour cream. For best flavor, let it rest in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before serving to mellow the raw garlic bite. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Do not freeze as the texture may separate.
