Creamy Garlic Herb Buttermilk Dressing

  • Author: Melano
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 1.5 cups (makes about 12 servings) 1x

Description

A kid-approved, creamy garlic herb buttermilk salad dressing that is ready in 5 minutes, costs pennies compared to store-bought versions, and is versatile enough for salads, dips, and roasted vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 34 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry fresh herbs, then chop them finely. Mince the garlic until almost paste-like and set aside.
  2. In a mason jar or small bowl, combine the buttermilk, mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and maple syrup.
  3. Add the minced garlic, chopped herbs, salt, and black pepper to the wet ingredients.
  4. If using a jar, screw the lid on tightly and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. If using a bowl, whisk until smooth and uniform.
  5. Taste the dressing and adjust seasoning with more salt, lemon, or pepper as needed.
  6. Cover and let the dressing sit in the refrigerator for at least 5 minutes to allow flavors to meld and garlic to soften before serving.

Notes

If the dressing is too thick, add a splash of buttermilk or water. If too thin, add more mayo or sour cream. For best flavor, let it rest in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before serving to mellow the raw garlic bite. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Do not freeze as the texture may separate.
