Garlic Butter Steak and Shrimp Skillet

  • Author: Melano
  • Total Time: 15-20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A quick and luxurious 15-minute weeknight dinner featuring seared steak and shrimp in a rich garlic butter sauce with soy sauce and honey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs flank steak, skirt steak, or sirloin, sliced against the grain into thin strips
  • 1 lb large or extra-large shrimp, peeled and deveined, patted dry
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil (for searing)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 68 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Pat the steak dry and slice it against the grain into 1/4-inch thick strips. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Pat the shrimp extremely dry and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with 1 tablespoon of oil. Sear the steak strips in a single layer for 1-2 minutes per side until browned but not fully cooked. Remove to a plate.
  4. Reduce heat to medium. Add another tablespoon of oil if needed. Sear the shrimp for 1-2 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove to the same plate as the steak.
  5. Reduce heat to low. Add butter to the pan. Once melted, add minced garlic and red pepper flakes. Stir constantly for 30-60 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  6. Pour in soy sauce and honey, whisking to combine with the brown bits (fond) from the bottom of the pan.
  7. Return the steak and shrimp to the pan. Toss to coat in the sauce and let sit for 30 seconds to reheat.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in fresh parsley. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
  9. Serve immediately over rice or with crusty bread, spooning extra sauce over the top.

Notes

Slice steak against the grain for tenderness. Do not crowd the pan when searing to ensure a good crust. Pat proteins dry before cooking to prevent steaming. Use low heat when melting butter to prevent burning. Soy sauce adds umami depth but does not make the dish taste Asian.
