Homemade Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso

  • Author: Melano
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A creamy, frothy, and cost-effective homemade shaken espresso made with oat milk and brown sugar. This recipe saves time and money compared to coffee shop drinks while delivering a bold coffee flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup very strong coffee concentrate (brewed from 1/2 cup dark roast grounds or 46 espresso shots)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1 cup oat milk (Barista Edition recommended)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 pinch cinnamon (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Brew 1 cup of very strong coffee concentrate. If using drip coffee, use double the usual grounds.
  2. While the coffee is still hot, add 2 tablespoons of brown sugar (and vanilla extract if using) to the pitcher. Stir vigorously until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  3. Let the sweetened coffee cool to room temperature if drinking immediately, or pour into ice cube trays/jars and freeze for meal prep (keeps up to 3 months).
  4. In a cocktail shaker or large mason jar, combine 1/2 cup of the cooled coffee concentrate (or 2-3 frozen coffee cubes), 2 tablespoons of brown sugar (if not pre-sweetened), and 1 cup of ice.
  5. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the mixture is cold and frothy.
  6. Fill a tall glass with fresh ice cubes.
  7. Pour 1 cup of oat milk over the ice in the glass.
  8. Strain the shaken espresso mixture over the oat milk.
  9. Top with a pinch of cinnamon if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure the coffee is very strong to prevent dilution. Always dissolve brown sugar in hot coffee concentrate, not cold liquid, to avoid grittiness. Shake for 15-20 seconds to create natural foam. For meal prep, freeze the sweetened coffee concentrate in portions for up to 3 months.
