Description
A quick, elegant, and budget-friendly breakfast featuring toasted bagels topped with homemade dill cream cheese, smoked salmon, and fresh toppings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz (225g) softened full-fat cream cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried dill)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 large bagels, sliced in half (plain, sesame, or everything)
- 4–6 oz (115-170g) cold-smoked salmon
- 1 tablespoon capers, drained
- 2 tablespoons red onion, thinly sliced (optional)
- 2 medium tomatoes, sliced (optional)
- Butter for toasting (optional)
Instructions
- In a small mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, chopped fresh dill, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Slice the bagels in half and toast them in a toaster or toaster oven until golden brown. Avoid toasting too dark to prevent bitterness.
- Spread a generous layer of the dill cream cheese onto each toasted bagel half.
- Lay the smoked salmon slices on top of the cream cheese, folding or draping them to cover the bagel evenly.
- Add capers, red onion slices, and tomato slices if using. Pat tomato slices dry before adding to prevent sogginess.
- Serve immediately while the bagel is still warm.
Notes
Let cream cheese soften before mixing for easier spreading. Drain capers well to avoid watery bagels. Pat tomato slices dry to prevent sogginess. The dill cream cheese can be made up to 3 days ahead and stored in the fridge. Smoked salmon can be stretched by folding slices rather than laying them flat.
